Air Pollution

Austin has had more days of elevated air pollution than almost any other city in Texas. According to Dr. Maria Neira, the Director of the Department of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health at WHO, "Air pollution is stunting our children's brains, affecting their health in more ways than we suspected."

Climate Change

Austin has been warming at a rate of 0.4ºF per decade since 1938, and the temperature is expected to increase 5-10ºF by the end of this century. The urban areas of the city can be 7º hotter than the outlying areas due to lack of trees to inhibit the absorption of solar power.
